In Kashmir with it’s dense forest and wide variety of walnut trees it has a rich tradition of walnut wood carving. The strong, rich, dark wood of the walnut tree known as ‘DUN’ in Kashmir was considered ideal for the carved work. Due to it’s durability and natural color, it is regarded as most suitable wood for carving and wood working. Carving is done skillfully by hand where it makes undercut and deep carving with indigenous tools.

The walnut carved box which we are selling is made of whole walnut wood. On the side of the box there is beautiful leaf carved by hand. On Upside of the box, it is carved as well as beautifully undercut handwork is applied. You can see very clearly the beautiful branches of grapes and the leaves as well. The upper carving and the undercut work is a master piece work. There are two chambers in the box and you can use it as a jewelry box as well as you can put valuable things in it. In front side area of the box, there is a beautiful secret Lock for opening and closing.

Paper Mache is one the most popular crafts practiced made by local people of Kashmir. The Techniques involved in Paper Mache production are divided into two distinct categories. The First is ‘SakhtaSazi’, making the object, the second is ‘Naqashi’ painting the surface.

In ‘SakhtaSazi’ grind newspaper and other papers pulp which is molded around a based shape. The colors painted on the object are made from pigments diluted in water to which some glue is added to fix it to the ground on which it is used. ‘Naqashi’ are very intricate and their application requires a great deal of skill and accuracy. The patterns are painted free handed. The brushes used for ‘Naqashi’ were formally made of cat’s hair.

In this kind of Paper Mache embossed technique is used to decorate it. During embossment very delicate and beautiful leaves and flowers are created. It is all handmade and before finishes a special shinning glue is applied all over the paper Mache work. To give it the shape of heart a cardboard is used for this purpose. An interior of this heart shape jewelry box is made of very fine quality velvet.

Numdah is a piece of press felt made entirely of wool. Unspune wool is evenly spread over a mat and then rolled and pressed under foot for felting. The felted piece is then milled, washed and then dried. The Numdah makes a warm colorful floor covering and is also used as mattress. It can also be used as a wall hanging.

The Numdah we are selling is made of pure sheep wool and beautiful flowers and leafs are embroidered. On the four sides of the Numdah you can see the pieces of pure sheep wool.

A Darri (Rug) is a popular handicraft made of pure camel hair wool. In this process they first of all gather the camal hair and then made it wool by hand and this is one of difficult process of making camel hair wool. This is a famous handicraft of the people of Sindh, Pakistan.

The Darri (Rug) which we are selling is a classical master piece of art. After the difficult process of changing camel hair into wool, the whole process of making this rug is by hand. It is very time consuming process. It almost took a month to complete this kind of rug. The making process is done by the khaddi’s (local handmade looms) and by hand, you can see the picture in our description images, the sindhi local women and men are doing this time consuming job. 

The 80% of this rug is made of camal hair wool and the rest 20% which is the designing of the rug is made of different colors thread of cotton. On the back side of the rug you will see the whole background of camel hair wool and colorful cotton threads. Over and backside of  the rug in some place you will see the knots which clearly reflect that it is made by hand and over the khaddi’s (local handmade looms). On the both width side on the backside of the rug there is a natural camel hair.
